60 Years of Machine Tool Excellence

One of the three largest makers of machine tools in Korea, Hwacheon celebrates its 60th anniversary this year; and as a company, Hwacheon is fully ripe. “Local Enterprise Odyssey” is a new section on the Internet version of Hwacheon’s newsletter, and for the first cover story I have visited Hwacheon Machine Tool, rightfully because Hwacheon was born in the city of Gwangju, and has grown its business there for the past sixty years.

Designed to encourage and recognize organizations, companies, and individuals for outstanding achievements in the industries, this year’s 2012 awards, hosted by KCEOA and sponsored by Korea Economic Daily and the Korea Chamber of Commerce & Industry, was a 10th anniversary celebration. The nominees were drawn from public listed companies and these companies were evaluated for their leadership, growth, profitability, and management.

Jong-seok Park wins the Second Annual Seo’am Traditional Culture and Art Grand Prize

Jong-seok Park, an acclaimed name in Korean traditional art, has been studying and writing for the past twenty years about the root and the spirit of the Honam Nam-hwa, which literally translates “the southern art style of the Honam provinces.” Park, now 54, has committed himself to this quest of following the ancient style of art-he has been collecting, writing, and publishing about his studies and findings, and it has been a lonely and difficult quest.

Hwacheon Machinery Wins “Korea’s Top Enterprises Award” for Two Consecutive Years

The 11th anniversary Korea’s Top Enterprises Award was held at the Renaissance Seoul Hotel in Seoul, Korea on the 20th this month. The award is designed to discover and promote innovations in business, and is sponsored by the Korea Economic Daily and the Korea Chamber of Commerce & Industry. This year, S-Oil, LSIS, Shinhan Bank, Yuhan Corporation were among eleven companies which won the title.

Hwacheon, the maker of world-class machine tools, is celebrating its 60th anniversary on the 26th this month. Being the only machine which can create other machines, machine tools are an essential to the growth of industry. In Korea, Hwacheon is the name regarded by the industry to be the living legend in this field.

Hwacheon Launches Smart-Machine

Hwacheon will show its first Smart-Ua at Seoul International Manufacturing Technology Show (SIMTOS) 2012, on the 17th. Smart-Ua is capable of handling whole production processes in a single step, and anyone with the basic machine tool training can easily operate the machine. An otherwise complex production process from modeling, CAM, tools and work piece setup to actual machining can be performed all automatically with just four button push.
